The Lob: Padel's Most Underrated Shot
A well-timed lob is the most powerful shot in padel. Here is how to hit it properly and when to use it.
Most beginner and intermediate players think of the lob as a defensive shot of last resort. In reality, the lob is one of the most strategically powerful shots in padel.
When to lob:
- When both opponents are at the net
- When you are out of position and need time to recover
- As a change of pace to disrupt rhythm
How to hit a good lob:
1. Use a continental grip
2. Open the racket face slightly at contact
3. Brush up and through the ball
4. Aim for 5-6 metres high — higher than you think
5. Target the back corners, not the middle
Common mistake: hitting the lob too flat, too low, or down the middle.
