Barons Fitness Centre, part of the Scarborough RUFC’s Squash & Racquets Academy, made a landmark contribution to regional sport by introducing the very first padel courts on the Yorkshire Coast in early 2023. Strategically located in Scalby, just outside the town centre and adjacent to the rugby club’s Silver Royd ground, the venue blends athletic performance with a welcoming social environment.
This facility was purposefully developed to meet growing interest in padel—a sport exploding in popularity across the UK—and to make it easily accessible to both committed players and those new to the game. The two outdoor, glass-walled panoramic courts are fully floodlit, allowing for year-round play in a scenic yet practical setting. Whether you’re looking to rally with friends after work, book a weekend court, or join in structured social sessions, Barons has created a space that’s as flexible as it is inviting.
What sets Barons apart is its ability to combine serious sport with a genuine sense of community. Players benefit not only from professional-grade courts and equipment rental but also from coaching programmes, social mix-ins, and casual drop-in sessions that encourage all ages and abilities to get involved. Backed by the broader fitness centre—with access to a full gym, squash courts, and a licensed bar and café—the club offers a holistic experience where padel is part of a wider lifestyle of health, enjoyment, and local connection.
